Great opportunities seldom come without us seeking them, but such a rarity did become a reality when young Presidians from Ashok Vihar recently got a chance to step into the shoes of future leaders on the occasion of PMUN 2017. The concept of a MUN has been initiated by the United Nations itself and holds a lot of importance as it helps the participants to become fully aware of the way the UN functions. Unless the students, the future of the world, are aware of the functioning and proceedings of the United Nations, this vital congregation of the nations of the world will not be successful.
The first interactive involvements of the students for the PMUN-2017 were the simulation sessions, which aimed at familiarizing the students with all the rules and procedure that have to be followed in MUN sessions. The informal simulation went a long way in lending the young delegates a confident grip on MUN rules and procedures and their applications. After registering for the main event and understanding their fields of research, the students were assigned countries. The theme was 'Presidium for Sustainable Development', which is indeed the need of the hour.
Graced with the presence of several mentors, respected academic heads and other esteemed guests, the day witnessed an amazing spectacle of tireless enthusiasm. All participants slowly overcame their initial hitches as the debate slowly assumed a smooth flow. With the proper guidance of the Executive Boards, all the committees made great headway into their respective topics. The formation of draft resolution was a sheer display of skill of convincing people and the ability to put forth ingenious ideas & solutions.
Displaying exemplary diplomacy and ingenious methods of reasoning and argument to defend their country’s policies, the delegates asserted their country’s stance on the floor of the house. The entire arena reverberated with applause as the best committee and delegate awards were announced. The PMUN-2017 was indeed a wonderful endeavour that gave wings to our future policy makers and promised earth of better days!
